Hi there, I’m in the process of building a new site for a client but I’m experiencing frequent crashes. I noticed that there’s no status update available for Webflow Designer on https://status.webflow.com/, and I haven’t found much information about this issue on X. Therefore, I thought it would be helpful to create a topic and see if anyone else is experiencing the same problem.
Welcome to the community @Jacob_Lara1
If you haven’t done so already, can you try checking to see if the problem persists in an incognito window with all of your extensions disabled? Sometimes these can cause issues — although unlikely — but it’s still good to rule out that as the cause.
Does the crashing only happen on the project your working on for this client or do you notice the issue across all your projects? If it’s the former, then I’d recommend trying to revert to a previous backup.
You can do this in the Designer, but since you’re experiencing issues in that environment I’d recommend doing this via the Project Settings instead. Click the three dots next to the project in your dashboard and then select the “Backups” option in the sidebar to see all of your automatic (and manual) backups — just keep in mind that this will recreate any Collection or Collection Item IDs, so it will require an update to any third-party connections via the API.
Hello @mikeyevin Thank you for your response, I tested the designer on various projects and restored this project to a previous backup. This has been happening to me all day even with some other client sites. I’ve sent reports after each crash so maybe Webflow will notice one of them.
Hey Jacob as Mike suggested, the problem is more likely something in your browser, either a bad cache, or a browser extension.
Using Chrome Incognito mode can help you verify that.
Thank you for your response, @memetican! I have turned off all browser extensions, cleared my Google cache, and tried using the designer in Incognito mode, but the issue persists. I can only use the designer for about 30 seconds before it crashes again.
If you want to continue the self-help process, the last thing you can do is try a different computer, on another network - but at this point it seems likely to be a Webflow-side issue.
Since we’re not seeing a flood of “designer is down” reports here I’d guess it’s something specific to your site that has confused the designer and triggered a bug on loading.
@memetican I just updated all extensions and disabled another and it seems to have fixed the issue as of now. Thank you for your help! Hope you have a fantastic week.
*Update the issue is still happening but now only on this particular client’s site.
Hi Jacob, what browser do you use to avoid the crash? Im facing the same issue with all of my projects, and I notice it always crash when I want to edit the green component.
Can you please elaborate how you fix this?
Thank you
@rachelsa I am currently using the latest version of Google Chrome and have been using the Relume Chrome extension. However, I was facing issues while using the designer. So, I disabled the extension, and after that, I could use the designer without any problems. I suggest you update all your Chrome extensions and disable them one by one. Then, test the designer after disabling each extension to identify which one is causing the problem.
Thank you so much, Jacob. I tried it and it worked fine now!!
Just for anyone else experiencing a lot of crashing, I found that designing in Safari (if you’re on a mac) is slightly better. It still crashes every couple of hours, but it seems faster and slightly less crashy there.
(If I want to inspect in the browser, I’ve just been using Chrome with the published / staging site which works as expected)
