@RuudvanBergen , of course. I totally get that. I found a forum similar to what you are looking for and TLDR version is, this is a wishlist item but the admin response is basically pointing you towards Weglot and status is not important.

Placing a Collection page in a SUBdirectory

So we are making our site multilingual, we decided to place the entire structure in subdirectories, www.example.com www.example.com/fr www.example.com/de www.example.com/se And obviously, from a relational database perspective, we will make country-specific CMS that has a reference to the main English CMS. The workaround seems to be to switch it to static pages and use subfolders instead which will be a lot of work depending on your case, hence I suggested Weglot.
