Duplicating a site from one workspace to another workspace

My client previously invited me to their Webflow workspace to work on their site. However, they now need to close the workspace, so I must either duplicate or transfer the site from my client’s workspace to my own. Is this possible in Webflow?

Hi there,

There are two ways to move your site to a different workspace:

  1. Direct Transfer: You can transfer the site between workspaces, but this requires the site to be on a Starter Site plan. If your site has an active Site plan, you’ll need to downgrade it first.

  2. Duplication Method: You can create a duplicate version of the site using our site duplication feature. Note that if your site uses a premium template, you’ll need to purchase the template again for the duplicate site.

Hopefully this helps! If you still need assistance, please reply here so somebody from the community can help.

Hi Esther,

Funny, Webflow’s AI bot doesn’t seem to know about their new seamless site transfers feature.

I’ve not seen this done, but if you have admin control, you should be able to transfer the site to your workspace and keep everything intact including the site plan and the client’s billing info.

To be safer, I’d do it this way-

  • Clone the site in the client’s workspace
  • Transfer the clone to your workspace, as a backup
  • Record key settings regarding the live site ( which site plan, 301 redirects, what apps are used, the domains list )
  • Have the client on standby in case you need to send them a request for billing info
  • Attempt to live-transfer it

If for any reason you have problems you then have everything you need to bring the site live in your workspace. Client billing would allow you to send them a request for payment info as part of the plan setup, or of course you can use your own CC and bill them accordingly.

But ideally, it will be a fully seamless transfer, and Webflow support recently confirmed to me that this should be possible.
