I have a few general questions about handing over a website to the client. I have a Freelancer Workspace plan and the client does not have a paid Workspace plan:
What happens if I transfer a Webflow site with CMS items from my workspace (freelance) to my client’s workspace (free workspace) via a client invitation? Can the client access the project only once they activate the corresponding site plan that unlocks the CMS items?
Can I add the site plan to the client’s workspace myself? Is there an option for me to send them a payment link where they enter their credit card information without me having access to this information, or does the client have to purchase and add the site plan themselves? How does this process work?
Can I add a custom domain to the site in the client’s workspace? Do I have the permission to do so if the client invites me?
What if I have used Relume components and the Relume Webflow plugin? Can I still transfer this site to the client’s free workspace? Are there any issues, or will the Relume components work as usual even if they are now in the client’s free workspace?
You don’t have to answer all the questions; I would be grateful if you could help with even a few. Also, if you know of any good tutorials that answer my questions, please share them.
Site transfers are initiated by the site owner ( currently you ), and has nothing to do with the invite.
Since your workspace is freelancer and theirs is free, there may be some limits for them on the transferred site, until they add the site plan. But in general they will be able to access it and at least some of the CMS data.
I can’t answer re Relume components, but to my knowledge they are part of your site with no server-side resources or site keys, you should be fine. If you’re unsure about all of this, clone the site before transferring, and transfer the clone, this ensures you can compare the site in both workspaces and test your functionality.
The client will have to add their credit card to their workspace which means they’ll have to log into it, or else give you their CC for you to handle it for them.
Create their workspace ( for them if you have access to their email )
Invite your Freelancer workspace as a guest
Clone and transfer the clone
Setup or help the client setup the site plan
Most of what you’re asking you can test out yourself, just create a new free workspace that you own, clone the site, transfer the clone, and see what limitations, if any, you have on that free workspace / free site configuration.
Thanks for the response, that helps a lot, do you also know if i can add a custom domain to the site in the client’s workspace? Do I have the permission to do so if the client invites me?
Should be fine, I am 90% certain I’ve done that in a client-owned workspace as a guest about 2 months ago.
There are certain key things you cannot do like a plan transfer or a plan add, I think anything to do with $ is restricted to the owner. Makes some sense. Domains are not.
