Refocus on what's important

Probably perfect timing for me to get something off my chest given the current issues we’re all facing with the Designer / Dash not loading:

Am I the only one (as a freelance designer), who isn’t in the slightest bit interested in GSAP animation, Webflow Conferences, breakout sessions from marketing legends or employing a new Head of Strategic Motivational Digital Brand Evangelist Experience Manager?

When I started using Webflow many years back it was SUPER exciting - every new feature felt like a perfectly fitting puzzle piece: ecommerce, memberships, logic etc. These were great. Everything was finally coming under one room. Easy to manage, easy to deploy and easy to host.

I hoped following those releases, each one would be built on. They were all great starting points. Really obvious things like integrating memberships tightly into ecommerce, using logic as part of ecommerce etc. Over time we’d end up with an incredibly powerful platform.

Sadly over time, it’s gone backwards. Memberships gone. Logic gone. Ecommerce untouched and half finished, I’d imagine very soon to be dropped too.

Now we have a refocus: an ‘experience platform’ (whatever that means). Now my text and images can bounce around. Its like when Photoshop introduced filters (if you’re old enough to remember that). Looks nice, but…

Yes I’m mindful there’s lots of great third party options out there - Foxy, Shopify, Memberstack to name a few. But it used to be so wonderfully integrated. This just adds more steps to my job - not to mention cost. Quoting on new jobs now is a ball ache. Which third party is going to be around next year? What’s their monthly charge? How tight is their integration?

Sorry for the negative post - I just long for the days when Webflow was, well, like Webflow. Every time the Dashboard loaded I used to get excited to see new features. Now I just get concerned at what’s getting removed.

If I could load my Dashboard today, I’d find out…

I can’t help but ask myself what kind of strategy and segment is being catered for…

I get to sugar coat websites with text-split and all the latest trends, but still have to explain to clients that it’s not yet possible to order a collection list database with a simple drag-and-drop.
