So like many I’m looking to move from Adobe muse. Problem I’m having is I don’t have much knowledge in seo. I want to try and minimise any damage to my current seo ranking, but from what I gather I will need to do a complete redesign of my website, which is what is was looking to do anyway as my page titles are all over the place and feel the website is in a bit of a mess. Currently on page 4 in Google search but I’m baffled as to how to go about this move and redesign with 301 redirects and such. I would be really grateful if somebody would be kind enough to give me some tips and point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance!
This is how I generally start migrations and redesigns. Not my complete list by any means.
- Make sure you have Google search console set up on the old site.
- Make sure you have access to analytic data like GA.
- In Search Console look at indexed pages and incoming links, sorting by traffic and backlinks.
- In GA, look at incoming traffic, sources, landing pages, and visitor flow.
- Determine redesign goals.
- Come up with a plan to achieve goals
- Create new IA structure as needed
- Wireframe and test flow and functionality
- Make changes as needed
- Start working on design.
Once the design is done, pages implemented, you can then implement your redirects.
That is just a start. I invest at least a full day (minimum) on research and planning, as part of the redesign process.
Hi, welcome to the forum! I too moved from Muse to WF around 2 years ago. Regarding SEO, if I can offer any advice, I did the following:
Where possible try to keep all URLs the same when recreating the new pages so they match the ‘old’ ones. Saying that, if you have some poorly formatted URLs such as www.website/hsf85nshc/wdf.html and you have the opportunity to call it something more relevant then do so. After that you’ll need to…
Set 301 redirects in WF - this is dead easy and can be done from the ‘Settings’ panel of your new WF site.
Make sure you set all your page titles, page descriptions, H1/H2 headings, image ALT tags etc in WF during the build.
If anything, after a while in Google, you’ll most likely see an improvement in SEO using WF correctly over Muse!
Hope that’s helped a little bit but don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any other questions along the way
Thanks for the info, really appreciate it. Sorry for the stupid questions but I’m looking to change my website almost completely and add new pages to it. Would I need to keep the same images and h1 h2 text as my old site or would changing this affect from an seo perspective?
