Hey guys - excuse my ignorance in this department, but a client wants to move from Wordpress over to Webflow, and they think their email is hosted with Microsoft (but it could be hosted through Siteground) - what do I have to do to ensure their email continues working properly? Thanks all in advance!
It should be simple, but it can be complicated.
In essence if the email is hosted with a 3rd party provider like MS Outlook, then it’s just a matter of keeping the MX records unchanged ( as well as SPF and DKIM TXT records ). Unless you’re moving their DNS to a different provider, there isn’t anything to do.
However. I’ve seen some clients purchase their Google Workspace or Office 365 license through their hosting provider as a reseller- and that means that if you cancel your hosting plan, it’s complicated. You have to get the hosting provider to relinquish “ownership” and commission on that sale in order to disconnect the license, so that it won’t shut down with hosting.
Best advice is, do some research. Message the hosting provider if you need to, to verify mail is independent of hosting. Find out what’s needed if it’s somehow dependent.
Thanks so much! Really helpful advice!
