The domain associated my main webflow account expired and someone has renewed it. They have now changed the email and password associated with my webflow account and are asking for a ransom to restore my websites.
What can I do?
Support is not replying/the only way to contact them is by loggin in… and ofcourse I can’t log in.
I don’t have any other backups. I had 6 websites hosted on webflow on annual plans and I had 3 designer seats.
I think that Webflow can’t force someone to give up a domain they acquired legally. If you have trademarks being infringed upon that might be leveraged to your advantage. Copyright law over the content should apply and you can explore that angle.
Just never let domains expire unless you want them to purposely go away for good.
I understand that and I don’t really need the domain back, I just need the websites that were hosted on webflow back. Surely this is a very easy fix on Webflow’s end?
I would gather up any documentation you can plus receipts / proof of payments / copies of email, etc… so you can be prepared if they engage with you. Here is a shoutout to @matthewpmunger who may be able to assist.
Thanks, I have a few copies of the receipts and my credit card is linked to the webflow account. Hopefully that should be enough to verify that it’s me who owns the account.
