The developer we’ve hired to build our CMS based site says “please share your Webflow account credentials so that we can transfer the project to your account which I am not able to do with the current access which you have shared.”
That seems like a really bad idea to me. How do I make sure they have the access they need to transfer the code and build the CMS portion of the website WITHOUT giving them access to our account?
We already have a CMS site plan in place, and I just purchased a “core” workspace plan.
How do I give them the access they need to finish the job?
On the Workspace, their role is “Designer”.
On the site with the CMS plan, they are listed as Designer as well.
Do they need to be a “Site Manager”?
the read only site link is useless, it’s just an empty placeholder. Nothing has been created yet.
Does the developer have a Freelancer or Agency workspace plan?
To transfer to you, all they need is the email address you’ve used for your workspace.
Once it’s transferred, you’d ideally invite them as a Freelancer / Agency guest, assuming [2] is YES. This is done at the workspace level under team management.
Also, regarding your own Core workspace plan. Generally you only need a paid workspace plan if;
a. you’re building other unhosted sites, or
b. you want other special workspace features like code export, component libraries or single-site access ( SSA ) controls.
If [1] is YES and you have only one site in your workspace, then you probably do not need a paid workspace. If you have multiple sites and you want to restrict their access to that one site, you’d need SSA controls which I think is an Agency or Growth workspace plan feature ( check that ).
Designer role is enough access for “build the CMS portion of the website”. It may not be enough if they’re setting up the site hosting plan, redirects, etc. for you.
Thank you for taking the time to help out with this. I really appreciate it!
Does your workspace contain only the one site?
technically, there are two. One is a placeholder for the developer code, and the other was a practice site where I was trying to get upto speed with webflow. The second could easily be deleted, it’s of no value.
Does the developer have a Freelancer or Agency workspace plan?
I’m unsure if they do or not, but I would be shocked if they didn’t. I’ve asked if they do just to be sure I have a complete answer though.

thank you for this, I’ve sent them the email address associated with the account. Hopefully, they’ll send over the code and continue the

I’ve already added them as a designer role at this level, but we will have redirects from an old site that need to be created. Is this something only the Site Manger level guest can do?

It seems I might have been hasty in purchasing the Core workspace plan. Thier multi-layered pricing for every little thing is confusing to me.
I’m invited into a lot of workspaces, but I can’t tell which role I’m invited in as - they are simply listed as “Guest”.
If you want, DM me, I’ll give you my email to invite as Site Manager and record o vid for you as to what access it allows regarding redirects.
I’ve never seen a table listing features v. role clearly, but my expectation would be that Site Manager should allow it, and a Designer role should not.
