Changing Account Email Issues

I’m needing some help updating the primary email associated with an account.

New to upload seems I have made a little bit of a sticky situation for myself. I created an account to build a website on behalf of my client. To streamline things I decided to use my email. His credit card has paid for the account his name is in it and now we are trying to change it from my email address to his.

We have gone through the steps which is to put in the request approve the email sent to me, approve the email sent to him. The issue is nothing updates. Nothing changes.

After he hits approved he’s then taken to a blank screen to log in. One would assume he could use the updated email address and login associated to that original account. No that does not work.

I have had a support ticket in for over a week. And at this point, I have not had a response for 5 days. I opened a new ticket today still no word.

This is the last step for me to hand over this website, and get paid.

Any help here in the community greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately the community cannot help you with systems issues.
However, the “normal” approach for this is;

  • Have him create a new workspace, and give you the login temporarily ( if you want convenience )
  • Remove the hosting plan from the site in your workspace
  • Transfer the site
  • Re-establish hosting
  • He changes the password

If your workspace is on a freelancer or agency plan ( I’m guessing not ), then he could invite you as a workspace guest rather than giving you his temporary password.

If you wait a month, seamless transfers might be in place by end of year and you could transfer it to his account without disrupting the hosting.

Thank you for responding. If you don’t mind I have another question…

Since it has a custom domain with the sites domain settings need to be updated along with email?

I don’t know that he’ll want to wait to wait a month, especially if it’s ‘might be’

Not sure what you’re asking.

  • Yes you would need to re-verify the domain with the client’s account, so that they can use it, this is a TXT record
  • Some other site settings will likely need to be re-set… Apps / integrations, maybe reCAPTCHA, maybe 301 redirects.
  • Webflow doesn’t provide any email services. You’d sort that separately.

It’s not much downtime to do the transfer and re-verification of the domain, just do it during a low traffic period.
