Hello. I’m not sure if this is by-design or perhaps I’m missing something. Is there a way that ‘Marketers’ in ‘Build Mode’ can edit the content of a Master Component?
I understand that they can edit the instance fields that are setup which is useful for reusable elements that have different content. But what about if I have the website header and footer setup as a component and they want to change the phone number that appears in the header for example?
If i setup fields, obviously it’s only going to change on the specific instance, which is no good for a site header or footer.
Hello @cbg, you can’t change a component in Build Mode, you can update it if the component has property fields. If you want your client to make global edits to a component, without using the designer, you should tie that content to a CMS. I hope this helps!
The purpose of Build Mode is to edit content within the framework you’ve already created. It’s very page-level, e.g. build a marketing funnel landing page, edit an About page, write a Blog post.
Site-wide changes such as component masters have broad-impact and are therefore kept in “design mode” territory.
…but you can edit master components in the “edit” mode?
This doesn’t make much sense to me… I had to tell me client to switch from “edit” to “build” mode, because locales are not supported by “edit” and now he can’t change the many component elements anymore…
In the designer, “Edit” mode was renamed to “Build” mode as it’s more descriptive and creates less confusion with the content editor, which is a separate thing.
To my knowledge Edit / Build has never been able to edit component masters.
However, the content editor might - unintentionally - because it has not been updated to properly support components yet.
