Can't Downgrade Site Plan: "Disable Ecommerce" Error, but No Ecommerce Tab Visible

Hello Webflow Community,

I’ve run into a critical billing issue and I’m hoping someone has a workaround, as I’m on a tight deadline for a client.

The Goal:
I need to “downgrade” a client’s site, named “Haven Oaks,” from the free Starter Site Plan to the paid Basic Site Plan.

The Problem:
When I try to purchase the Basic plan, I get the following error message:

“You need to disable Ecommerce checkout first before you can downgrade this Site plan.”

However, when I go into my Project Settings, there is no “Ecommerce” tab visible, so I have no way to disable it. I also do not have the Ecommerce panel (shopping cart icon) in the Designer view.

My Account Setup:

  • My personal account is on the Freelancer Workspace Plan.

  • The site in question is on the Starter Site Plan.

I suspect the issue is that my Freelancer plan enabled some Ecommerce functionality on the site in the background, but the site’s Starter plan is too basic to show me the UI controls needed to turn it off. I am stuck in a “catch-22.”

Has anyone found a way to solve this without having to rely on a direct intervention from Webflow Support? Is there a way to force the Ecommerce settings to appear or to clear the “Ecommerce flag” on the project myself?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Hi @brandsmits. I’m Sef from Webflow’s Support team. I’m truly sorry to hear about the trouble you’re having with purchasing a Basic Site Plan. I can imagine how stressful this must be, especially when you’re working against a tight deadline for a client.

I suspect the issue here might be that your site has CMS features enabled. If that’s the case, it could be preventing you from purchasing the Basic Site Plan.

To resolve this, please check out this article: Prepare to purchase a Basic Site plan
