I have made some static websites in Webflow but have been asked if the following feature could be added to a page.
The feature in question is a directory listing on a website similar to what is seen here on this page Women in Number Theory by Research – Women in Number Theory
Visitors would be able to submit themselves into the directory using the form on the page much like this example page.
My question is whether or not this is possible using Webflow and if so if anyone can point me in the right direction on how to get started with this? That is to say, is this something that I can do with Webflow CMS and native Forms?
This Is currently not possible as far as I know. There is a wishlist item for this Send form submission data to CMS | Webflow Wishlist
You may be able to try to set up a zapier integration where the form data is pushed to a cms update but I don’t think it’s been done and will likely be a pain to get it to work right. Sorry I don’t have better news. Your best bet is to use a 3rd party system.
I recently did this with zapier and it was actually pretty low effort. Just form submission pushed to CMS where you can approve it or remove it. You can also take images if you need with something like uploadcare.
But as Dave said, it’s not natively supported. Hopefully soon…
This would be very easy to do with Bubble.io (or Wordpress). Webflow is not a good tool for building searchable online directories with numerous listings/items.
It’s 100% doable, via native Forms, if you add Zapier to the mix. Here is a step by step screencast of mine walking you through exactly how to do it. The example is for a “commenting system” but trivially retooled for a directory site:
