Visual Assets Loading Slowly

Hi all, I’m having some issues with a few visual assets on my home page taking forever to load on desktop. I have a large hero image as well as an embedded Vidzflow video that can often take 5-10 second to load in and the space just shows up as white while they do.

Interestingly, while both assets are the same on mobile, I do not have this issue. Any idea what this could be? I’ve seen some talk about the Google Optimize plug-in causing this issue, but didn’t see it active anywhere on my site.

Any help is much appreciated!

Here is my site Read-Only: Webflow - Sky Senderos

It loads fine on my side incognito and off-incognito using Google Chrome with Macbook Air. Could be an environment issue, e.g. internet speed or something else causing the long load time on your side.

Have you also tested with smaller file sized images to see the impact on load time? Your image sizes are definitely on the larger side.

So, 3 things.

  • Don’t set the image in the hero as a background image, first off you’re not able to set Lazy or Eager and not great for responsive behaviour control.
  • It’s huge, you want that much much smaller it’s over 2 mb, your assets are slow because they’re too big.
  • Finally set the video quality on the embed parameters, if you want it snappier, set it to play at 720p, more than enough for the dimensions, but it’s probably being held back by the other large assets hogging bandwidth.

I only clicked on the hero image, and before I closed the tab I opened the asset panel, basically all the images are just huuuuge.

Thanks for the response. I ultimately just compressed the images and that’s made a huge difference. The video I also just changed to a lightbox because the embed was causing major issues.

I think you may have tested it after I compressed some images so I feel like it’s in a much better place now. Thanks for taking a look!
