User Digital Downloads / Who downloads what

Hi everyone

I am looking to create a site where users can download specific content. So far so easy.
However, I need to be able to track which user downloaded which content.
The experience should be as smooth as possible. This is why I am hesitant to fall back on the E-Commerce Digital Product solution.

Ideally it would be possible for users to:

  1. Log-In (or register)
  2. See and click the download button
  3. Get the file (download or via email)

(And 4. I can see which user downloaded what file).

I am currently experimenting with access groups but maybe this would be possible with different mailing list in Mailchimp.

Does anyone have an idea how to achieve this?

If you use ecommerce you will not have any track usage, use a form automation instead, make a form with only a submit button and the email of the user, and with zapier/make/pipedream, send an email to that with the download link inside, in this way you can save somewhere the email

I thought about that. However is there any way the user does not have to input his/her email? If the user is logged in - can the system pull the email address somehow?

not with conventional methods, but with javascript you can
