Redesigning a live site

Hi,

Our company needs to carry out a comprehensive reboot of their website. This will mainly be around content, whereas style and much of the visual design will carry over.

In the meantime, the existing site will still need to be updated occasionally, so obviously, and updates will also publish redesign work, which we won’t want to do until the redesign is complete.

What is the best way to go about this?

Obviously, we could clone the site and redesign there, but when it comes to publishing, we’ll get charged for an additional site.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I would set up an account with Webflow with hosting - BUT - use a subdomain.

Example:
Live Site: site.com
New Updated Site: home.site.com, or something easy to remember, one the public or current customers cannot accidentally type in or stumble upon.

(home.site.com, main.site.com, team.site.com, public.site.com, shop.site.com)

  1. Using a sub-domain will not interrupt the live site, and will only require a simple DNS record in the domain registrar of the primary live site.
  2. It will allow you to re-work a site, but still send the decision makers a live edition where they can view remotely.

REMEMBER:

These sub-domains need to be well thought out, because you don’t want to change these names all the time. The time it takes for DNS changes can have a mild interruption to propagate.

And of course, if they want to keep their live site on the current server location, this will never interfere.
I would suggest this route. Hope this helps
