Watching the video for Sliders. In the video, he adds a container to the slider and then brings the slider down via padding. After he does this the container is visible where he put. When I tried this, it seemed as my container did the opposite as it is still connected to the top. No idea what I did wrong.

In the video screenshot you posted, that is a Heading 1 within a container.
Put something in your container and give it a margin/padding.
Which is this video you are referring to?
Some UI might have changed, however, simply adding something in the container like text/header will fix it, as a container is not supposed to be left empty anyway.
