New site & old domain, but old site on google

So I made a new site for my customer here in webflow and linked their domain to it. All good so far, but when I search their site on google it shows the old site description and old link theirsitedotcom/site goes to 404 page. Of course this new site doesn’t have that page “site” because it always goes to the designated “home“ page when the domain is typed to the search bar.

Does google take time to notice the new structure or do I have to somehow make that “site” page as home page?

Hi there,

When making structural changes to your site, it’s important to maintain your SEO value and ensure proper indexing. Here’s what you need to do:

First, set up 301 redirects from your old URLs to the new ones. This will preserve your SEO ranking and prevent visitors from encountering 404 errors when accessing your old links.

To speed up the indexing of your new structure:

  1. Verify your site ownership in Google Search Console
  2. Generate and submit your updated sitemap
  3. Use the URL Inspection tool to request indexing of new pages

While Google will eventually discover and index your new site structure naturally, these steps will significantly accelerate the process.

Hopefully this helps! If you still need assistance, please reply here so somebody from the community can help.
