Limit uses per customer - depends on what?

How does “Limit uses per customer” determine what a customer is? We don’t have a customer list anywhere, there are no user accounts…is it checking IP? Name? Payment info…the browsing session?

I’d imagine this is based on email address, however I haven’t tested it myself to confirm.

Other platforms that have their own member functionality (like Shopify for example) use the email address to determine if a coupon code has been used so I would imagine this works the same way.

That’s also what I’m assuming. The average order amount for the store is pretty high so I’m hoping to learn a bit more before telling them not to worry about it.
