Independent links for buttons

Hi there, I want these buttons to have independent links. You know how to do it?

Hey John, if you could share your read-only link it would be a lot easier to help

Thanks for that. I’m not 100% what you mean by an independent link. Are you wanting the button to be external to your CMS collection - e.g. every single CMS item (page) has the same button at the bottom of the page, all pointing to the same link?

P.S I like your “next project” and “previous project” functionality. I was struggling to think of a similar solution recently!

That’s right, all links are pointing to the same link. Could you help me?

Yes! Really simple as you already have the correct field in the CMS settings.

You have correctly created a field to be filled in within the CMS Item:

So all you need to do now is link the button to this field.

Select the Filled Btn element, and find the settings on the right. Currently, it looks like this:

Simply tick “Get URL from Projects” and select the top “Link To Client Website”

That’s it!

Look at these images:
This project 1, has the link: binary.com and is correct.

Project 2 automatically assigns the link of project 1

How can I make the buttons independent in their links?

You should not enter a link in the red highlighted URL section that you shared above. Take that link out, then follow my steps again

So you should only:

  • Tick “Get URL From Projects”
  • Select “Link To Client Website”

You do not need to type a URL in anywhere - you have already done this in the CMS Item.

These links are external. Any problem?

I’m not sure what you mean. Have you tried following the steps?

Perfect! works! Thanks Andy!

Awesome, glad you got it sorted

I want to ask you: Do you know how I can download my website built in Webflow to upload it to this domain: johnlamprea.com ?. Keeping it in Webflow is expensive. What would you recommend me?

I’m afraid I have no experience with hosting outside of Webflow :frowning: personally, I love the Webflow hosting and wouldn’t move outside of it unless I had to. You will lose the ability to one-click publish for a start!

It is very expensive :frowning:

All I can suggest is to give this article a read - it has helped me “sell” Webflow Hosting to several clients. At the end of the day, they should be the ones picking up the cost, not you

The option you would have would be to pay 16USD month by month: /, right?
Is there any way I can migrate the johnlamprea.com domain to Webflow?

For CMS hosting, you would need to pay $192 ($16 per month for 1 year) or $20 month-to-month.

I don’t see why you can’t migrate your existing website domain to a Webflow project. However I don’t think you can import code, so you would have to recreate it in Webflow (I could be wrong).

To actually point a domain to a Webflow project, you just need access to the domain’s DNS records - it’s a fairly simple process.

Thank you Andy. Regards.
