Thank you for trying to help me. I fully understand Webflow will charge 2% per transaction.
I have created a store for a client which I have also paid for a years hosting on their behalf. (and billed them accordingly).
But how do Webflow get their 2% cut?
Will Webflow keep charging MY credit card every-time a transaction completes?
Or will Webflow keep a track of orders and bill me each month?
In either case, that’s not good, because these are client costs. Which means I will have to get my client to create their own Webflow account and transfer the project over to them.
or perhaps…
Will Stripe pass on the 2% to Webflow, deduct Stripes own 2% and deposit the remaining 96% into the clients Stripe account?
That’s a good question. Other E-commerce systems I’ve used in the past that collect a fee from each transaction simply take it off the top and basically deposit the transaction in my bank account minus the fees. So if it were 2% from the e-commerce platform, you would add that to the regular stripe transaction fees (2.9% + $.30) for a total of 4.9% +$.30. Gateway fees vary but in this case, if the order were for $100, fees would be subtracted and $94.80 would go into my bank account. Not sure if Webflow does it this way or not, can someone confirm?
Hello, Did you ever find an answer to this question @RugbyWebDesign? I would love to know the answer cause I am in the same boat right now with a client and need to know how Webflow charges their 2%.
I got this reply, but still not really sure I understand!
Great question, and thanks for reaching out for clarification!
The transaction fee is calculated from the total before taxes and is automatically taken from the client’s profits. Here’s an example of a $10.00 transaction (Stripe view):
The order was for one item – a hat – for $10.00.
To calculate the revenue from the sale, the formula is as follows: Net Revenue = Order Total with Taxes - (Order Total with Taxes * 0.02 Webflow Transaction Fee) - (Order Total with Taxes * .029 for Stripe) - (0.30 for Stripe)
The taxes were calculated after I added my address, and totaled $0.81.
The “Application fees” of $0.22 refers to the Webflow 2% Transaction Fee, and is 2% of order total after taxes. ($10.81 * .02 = $0.22)
The Stripe fee was (2.9% of $10.81) + $0.30 or $0.61 total.
@RugbyWebDesign Huh, I guess it looks like the client sees it through stripe??? I wish Webflow would be more clear about this type of stuff. I want to sell their product to my customer. Help me help you Webflow!
Agree wholeheartedly. Webflow is a fantastic product but I feel their focus is too much on the product and not the overall experience. Webflow is easy to sell as a demo to prospective clients but then I feel I’m making excuses re things like back office stuff. I’m in the UK and it still peeves me I’m being invoiced and incurring international fees due to Webflow still invoicing in USD.
Why is there no answer for this? How and when does Webflow charge the 2% and if my client decides to refund their customer, do they still incurr the 2% fee and the Stripe fee?
It saids in the plan that 2% is charged by webflow ON TOP of stripe’s fees… I want to know if my client decides to refund their customer, do they still incurr the 2% fee AND the Stripe fee?
Is there any option where I use Stripe (or any other platform) for payments and order processing without using Webflow eCommerce? I’m having a hard time selling the eCommerce plan to my client because of the fees (2% WF charge + 2.9% Stripe + $0.30 Stripe + Shippo monthly fee + labeling fee) versus something like Shopify Payments (only 2% fee)?
@jaylendwill you can look into using stripe on its own if you’re familiar with their code set-up. You could also use Shopify Lite or another shopping cart with webflow. You would be able to use the CMS and build your own ecommerce with your processor of choice. This is an article explaining how to use shopify with the cms but it works for any embeddable shopping cart system Shopify Integration | Webflow University
@sarahfrison It seems you know quite a bit about the CMS and eCommerce use cases. I have a question I’ve posted in the forum because others who have asked haven’t received replies. I would greatly appreciate if you would take a look and lend your expertise!
2% on top of the stripe fee is a deal-breaker considering Shopify offers the same monthly tier pricing without the extra fee. The standard tier should match Shopify if Webflow wants to compete and get us designers to sell it to our clients. I love the custom UX value but it’s not worth 2% to a business person. 4.9% + 30 cents.
