Wordpress to Webflow and Site Plan

Hello all,

I’m helping my friend. He currently has a website hosted on InMotion Hosting, but he will be hosting the new site on Webflow. My friend will be purchasing the CMS Site plan from Webflow. Before launching the new site with his custom domain, does he need to take any action with the InMotion hosting? Specifically, does he need to disconnect his domain name or disable anything or point to the new host?

Regarding the CMS Site plan, does my friend need to do anything specific when purchasing this plan to allow him to add the site to it? I’m going to have him go onto Webflow and purchase the site plan himself. So I don’t know what’s involved when a new user purchases a site plan. However, he needs to be able to publish the site to this site plan and do some 301 redirects. So he wants to make sure he sets it up properly to still have access.

He also noticed that he cannot set up any 301 redirects until there is an active site plan. Once he purchases the site plan, should he complete the redirects before publishing the new website?

Thank you for your help!

Hi there,

To ensure a smooth domain connection from InMotion to Webflow, you’ll need to prepare your DNS settings first. This involves removing all A records on the root domain and CNAME records on the full domain. This cleanup prevents conflicts and ensures proper domain connection. You can find detailed instructions in our DNS reset guide.

For the CMS Site plan transfer, here’s how to move the site to your client’s Workspace:

  1. Navigate to Site settings
  2. Select the Transfer option
  3. Enter your client’s email address
  4. Click Send transfer request

Your client will receive an email to accept the transfer. Once transferred, you’ll still maintain access to make necessary changes while ensuring your client has proper ownership.

Regarding 301 redirects, you’ll need an active Site plan to implement them. After the plan is activated and the site is transferred to your client’s Workspace, you can set up and configure the redirects before publishing the site to ensure a seamless transition for existing URLs.

Hopefully this helps! If you still need assistance, please reply here so somebody from the community can help.

Thanks for this detailed explanation. Regarding the site plan, just to confirm. So he will go and purchase the site plan. I’m assuming he needs to create an account first. Once he creates it, when he initiates the transfer with his email address and the client accepts it, the site is still not published? And then he can go in and do any redirects. Can he then publish the site or does he need to do that? And as soon as he hits publish, assuming he’s deleted all the A records and CNAME records at InMotion, the site will then be live?

Thanks agian.
