Webflow Membership feature launch

Hi, I attended the Webflow update event done earlier this year. I remember the mention of some exciting features by Webflow including membership feature. Is there any update on this? Is there a rough ETA on when this may be launched?

Thank you.

None provided. ETA was beta test in Q4.

Thanks Jeff. So, a very long wait.

While I have your attention, would you know a good tool for SSO for Webflow?

What are you trying to accomplish exactly?

I have this LMS that I am using that has SSO and I would like users to be able to also login to the front of my site which is Webflow. My initial plan was to use MemberStack and Webflow. But the LMS I found has proved to be very useful. So, I would still like to put 50% on my learning on Webflow, and it would be great if students didn’t;t need 2 sets of logins. Thanks.

Oh, one more thing, I have sent a message to MemberStack, and I am waiting to hear back from them. But I have a feeling they won’t be able to do it. I hope I am wrong.

Sorry, can’t help you on this. I don’t use Webflow for sites that require external third-party functions, preferring to use tools providing the core functionality instead.

Hi Danny, I am not sure I understand the question. Which membership software? Or something else?

What would you recommend?

I am using MemberStack. It seems like the most “Webflow friendly” platform out there. I believe it gets a lot of customers from Webflow, and it seems to be pretty good. However, I haven’t taken my site live yet. Although I have it integrated into my staging site. It was relatively easy to set up. I don’t have advanced tech knowledge but I can do most tech things by reading and watching videos.

I think the other one people go for is MemberSpace. I used to be a customer of theirs when I used SquareSpace for a time. It’s good, but I found it expensive. MemberStack seems to have a fairer price based on what I can see.

However, I hate using so many add-ons. It’s not just about cost. So, I would be very pleased if Webflow bring out a membership feature. I hope it helps.

8 - 9 months since this was answered. Looks like Beta opened up, and it was talked about at the no-code conf a few months back.

Any idea when we’ll start to see membership functionality available?

Thanks.

Any idea when Membership comes available? Susbscribed to the beta but seems they have enough testers :frowning:

Can anyone from Webflow management/staff update on this? It is incredibly frustrating. I started this thread 2 years ago when it was promised to be around the corner. Since then, I have gone with several other platforms for membership features, including Ghost. However, for a company that claims to engage with its users/customers, Webflow doesn’t seem to be very engaging when it comes to the membership feature. Even if it’s been shelved or postponed until 2025 or something - it would be good to get some info so some of us can know where we stand. Thank you.

Hey Ryan, I am not from Webflow, but the Memberships feature has been out since Nov. It’s mostly stable and has basic functionality, but is quite limited compared to other platforms. If you need to store user-specific data, you’ll find Wized or MemberStack easier to work with and more fully documented.

Webflow calls it User Accounts now I believe-

@RyanUK +1 to what @memetican said.

Webflow Memberships is live and could be a solid solution for personal projects (a personal wedding site, for example).

And then there’s Memberstack  I’m a cofounder, so I’m pretty biased towards it as a solution. We have 500+ free components and free templates you can use, tons of features like social auth, google and apple pay, passwordless, etc. and millions of people create accounts with our customers each year.

Feel free to email me directly if you have any q’s about wether or not Memberstack is a good fit for your project.

Hi Duncan and @memetican, Thanks for getting back to me. Given how long it took for Webflow to come up with the membership feature and the fact that they have made their customers wait years with release dates being delayed several times - it would be an underestimate to say that I am extremely disappointed with what they have released.

I have played around with Memberstack, Outseta, and I think a few others, and even the worst membership addons that I have seen have more features than what’s been touted in promotional YouTube videos about Webflow membership.

I genuinely hope I am wrong. I want to be wrong, and I would prefer for it to be a great product and good features, but based on what I see, it’s what you would use to create a very basic membership site.

I was going to write a more in-depth response, but I am unsure if there is any point.

I now understand why I did not notice any big promotion when it got released to the public. I wouldn’t probably want to mention it if I was behind it, and I would probably bury in on a bad news day like a politician. Maybe I am being harsh, but after waiting over 2 years, when I started this thread - I think I am being very gentle with my words.

Anyway, thanks for letting me know.

A lot of people hoped for more from Membership and Logic, but apparently due to resourcing issues they decided to pause those projects indefinitely and shift the teams to focus on more central systems.

Whatever the internal reasons for that decision, the end result is that both features are quite minimalist in terms what use cases they can support at this point.

Hopefully Webflow will return to them as some point, or offer direct integration points so that others can build and support more feature rich solutions.

Just to add on to this - and, like Duncan, I work with Memberstack so I’m probably biased. But, anyways:

I think the decision Webflow made to leave these features in their simple state is very, very smart and beneficial for the whole community.

Here’s why:

1. Focus. Webflow isn’t just pausing development on everything. They’re using the resources they were using for logic and memberships to improve the core, most important features of the designer. This means that Webflow will improve for 98% of use cases, instead of just building a feature for that 2%.

2. Dedication. By empowering teams like Memberstack to build third-party tools, you’re letting one team spend years of hard work and research perfecting that one feature, instead of just having it as one of your own internal afterthoughts. Think about WordPress - the reason they are so “great” is because they empower others to build incredible tools that extend their capabilities. WordPress never tried to build all those things themselves.

3. Community. By allowing community members to build businesses around making your product even better, you are gaining the best kinds of champions.

Just my 2 cents!

Why not use Memberstack, Outseta etc? Or were you waiting for a different integration?

Hi Julian and @LWS003, I am sorry for the delayed response. Can you confirm if either Memberstack, Outseta or even Webflow can paywall a partial section of a page? Ghost.org (CMS or membership blog platform) and many WordPress membership plugins have the feature to enable you to partially paywall a section of the content. I have a Ghost blog, where the first half of the content you can read for free, but if you want to continue, you need to sign up. I have always thought that was a great feature, and I originally saw it when I used to use Wordpress.

If any of your platforms have this feature, it is massive point for me to consider signing up.

I have tried Outseta. I like it. But I cannot remember the reason why I stopped using it. There was some issues, but I cannot remember what it was. Back then, Outseta never charged the 1% transaction fee. With Memberstack, I tested it. It seemed like the “more established” product, but the transaction fees kept me from committing.

Now, I could ignore many of the negatives I mentioned if that feature was available or if there was a way of doing it. Please let me know.
Thanks.
Ryan
