Webflow locale not accesible in CMS if using JS to display switcher?

Hello,

I am using a small javascript snipet to pilot the way the language switcher switches from one local to the other (there is only 2 locales, therefore my client didn’t wanted a native dropdown menu a la webflow…)

The issue is, it seems, since the switcher is javscript driven, once my client is on editor mode via its cms access login, he can’t switch the locale and therefore can’t modify text in the CMS… is there really no way to change the locale via the CMS ? Do I have to use native webflow animation to switch form one locale to the other in order to access translations in the CMS ?

here a screen recording of my issue

Hi Anthony,

The content editor does not have support for localization, so there is no way to switch locales.

You can do it using the Edit mode in the designer, but that generally means hosting the site in the client’s workspace, and then inviting you as an agency/freelancer guest.

Hi @memetican thank you very much for getting back to me !

I found a way to get localization support using the content editor. First the client needs to click on the “back to live site”, then switch the language from french to english for example, then click on “edit site” again, and then the CMS is in the english locale context.

I really wish Webflow would do more UX research before launching their product, it is hard to comprehend why one wouldn’t provide easy access to local switch within the CMS for client, especially if we pay extra to have access to this addon ?

My solution works, but it is a bit of a hack though.
