Step-by-step guide to adding Google ads to website

Could someone give me a step-by-step guide on how to add Google ads to my site? There is no root directory to upload the ads.txt file to (as per Google Ads instructions) and I can’t seem to find answers anywhere else OR the answers are kind of vague. I need someone to explain it to me as if I’m a five year old.

Hi Lindria,

I happen to be going through this process now, and in the waiting for evaluation stage. It looks like the ads.txt may not be required, but I’ve added mine via a redirect to a file hosted on Google Drive as an initial test.

Ping me back in a week or two and I can let you know if the integration worked properly.

Hi Michael, was wondering how this went. I’m trying to set up mine now.

Hi Dwayne,

It worked fine however ultimately I needed to setup a reverse proxy for this to deliver the ads.txt file. Redirecting it was never actually accepted by Google’s system.

I have a solution for this that I can build out for you if you need, small cost to setup but no ongoing costs on the r-proxy setup. Drop me a message if you want some assistance with that.

Hi All,

Thanks for your input here, @memetican and @Dwayne_Brown!

Do I understand correctly that setting up Google ads (and any other ads for that matter) on your Webflow site is a complete nightmare?

I am considering moving my content-driven site to Webflow, but would like to maintain my AdSense revenue and now have huge doubts. It’s so easy in Wordpress, so I didn’t expect this at all. I would want to have ads in all blog posts and be able to insert custom code and position the ads where I want.

Please share your latest experience when you have a minute! Thanks!

You can use adsense, position your ads with custom code and DIVs, etc. the barrier is the verification step with the ads.txt file.
