How to publish to staging while keeping draft status

With the old options, I was able to publish the article to staging, then pull it back into draft without removing the article from staging (until changes were published to the live site). This was helpful because the staging link would remain live so that the team could review without the risk of it getting published to the live site accidentally. Then if we did publish to the live site, it would get removed from staging, but I could just quickly add it back (then pull back into draft).

With the new options, it seems that when I set a post to “draft” it immediately unpublishes from staging.

Am I missing something or have the new publishing features disrupted this process?

Hi Geoff,

I think the approach you used before was possible due to an architectural gap between the CMS and the publishing environment. I leveraged that as well.

In the new more integrated setup there a more direct connection between the CMS item states, and the published views- and that results in staging and prod having a more synchronized state.

Yeah, I’d also prefer a smoother way to publish an item to staging only, test it, review scripts and interactions, etc. before pushing it live. I’m not entirely sure what that would look like without complicating the new publishing flow.
