How to change CMS custom field slugs

I’ve created a few custom fields in the CMS and then changed their names. The underlying field slug stays the same, which in some cases has caused a bit of confusion.

I made two reference fields recently, one for NEXT, one for PREVIOUS articles in the collection. I then swapped the names over (easier than reworking the layout…) but of course, the underlying slugs remained their original names.

Patching entries through Parabola meant I was setting, Next and previous the wrong way round. Lots of head-scratching ensued…

Is there a way to update the CMS filed slugs that are pulled in when making API calls?

Bumping this. Anyone have ideas? It looks like it’s not possible to update field slugs in the api as well?

You can rename the entire collection and create a new one, where you’re very careful to name the fields exactly as you want the first time around.

Then link, export, import, etc. your data.
