Hover image overlay transition that doesn't affect text

Hi all,

I’ve got a design that calls for an image to be used as a background behind some text and a button. Initially the background image would have a semi-transparent color overlay and then on hover the overlay would disappear. I’ve tried a couple different things but can’t seem to get it to work. Any ideas?
