Forced to pay about $50 to export a site

I have a special Webflow account where I archive old sites. Because it‘s on the free tier, the sites are all locked, and that‘s fine.

I happened to need to transfer one of those old sites to a person, and to unlock I‘m required to pay, which is fine again. But since the site was on the CMS, plan I needed to pay a CMS subscription.

Since I only need to transfer the site, I paid for a month, which is $35.09.

Before I transfer, I also wanted to duplicate the file so I could have an archive of it, but even for that, I‘m forced to pay.

Then I said, “OK, I‘ll just export the code.” Guess what? I can‘t do that. I need to pay again. This time for an account plan.

To sum it up: To be able to make a local copy and transfer the site, I actually need to pay slightly more than $50? Is that normal? Is there some workaround?

I think you confused site hosting plans and workspace plans.
In brief, hosting plans like the CMS plan are for hosting a site.
Workspace plans are for;

  • Accessing mutliple unhosted sites
  • Accessing more advanced design-time capabilities on those unhosted sites
  • Exporting code

You likely just needed to add a workspace plan to duplicate the site, transfer a copy, and/or export the code.
