I’m having an issue with my favicon on Webflow. It displays correctly in the browser tab when I visit my website, but it doesn’t appear in Google search results.
I’ve checked my favicon settings and everything seems properly configured on Webflow. I’ve also attached images showing the difference between the browser tab and the Google results.
Does anyone know why this might happen? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Can you double-check if the favicon you are using is as per the guidelines mentioned here? For example, it is recommended that the favicon is atleast / larger than 48x48px.
If you have followed all the guidelines, you might wait for some time to see if it gets updated on the search results. Here are some additional steps that might help in that case.
I saw that Google recommends using a 48×48 px favicon, but Webflow only allows uploading a 32×32 px favicon in the site settings. So I’m not sure how I can meet Google’s requirement directly through the platform.
I also added a piece of schema markup code generated from technicalseo .com (I can’t post the url on this topic, I don’t know why…)
However, the favicon still doesn’t appear in Google search results.
If anyone has a workaround for the 48×48 requirement or knows whether the custom code approach should solve it, I’d really appreciate your help.
Google’s specific guidelines for search result icons (favicons) state that the image should be a multiple of 48px square . Webflow has a old interface that does not allow you to upload a larger image as the favicon in site settings (32x32). The core product team needs to FIX THIS.
Google’s crawler is designed to look for one that is at least 48x48 or a multiple of, if exists. If you are on a paid plan you can just upload the asset and then reference it in custom code head area. Does not matter to Google’s crawler if there is more than one.
This is such low hanging fruit, hard to believe it has not been addressed yet, but here we are.
