Ecommerce - update product weight after order placement

I have a question regarding ecommerce and products and prices that vary in amount (kg).
Is it possible that a buyer order e.g. product A (1,5-2,0kgs) and when owner approves order he will put the exact kg amount (and price) into the system?
Perhaps Zapier could help? Until now I had to use old ASP.content (+400 products on order list) for their products in an iFrame on new Webflow site. Client is paying for the cms-solution with Webflow, but now wants to offer transport directly to door to buyers and need pre-payment (until now oldschool invoices have been used).
So I’m thinking ecommerce is so relevant, but still the issue with the weight/price for the products, hope someone can help me out on this…thanks!

Hi @Louise_Christensen,

Would a weight based shipping method do the trick for you ?
The price the client pays would then depend on the weight of the total order.

Hi Anthony

Thanks for your reply, yes this is what I need (I think), IF I can add it as a feature on each product?

AND owner of website can fill in the total weight before he approves the order in ecommerce…

Is this doable?

THANKS a lot!

Hi Louise,

From my understanding, the way it works is the following:

  1. owner or the shop specify a weight and a price for each product in the CMS
  2. owner publish his ecommerce website
  3. user goes on the website, start to add product into his basket
  4. once user hits checkout, the system will calculate the price of the product itselt + the price based on the weight which was defined earlier by the owner which represent the shipping method.

There is no owner filling weight after a user has entered an order. The weight setup is being made beforehand, before the user places an order. Once a user placed an order, he already paid via credit card, there is no way the owner can modify the weight and therefore the price of a purchase.

Thanks for fast reply Anothony, even though it was not what I hoped:-/

Ahhh bummer then I cannot use e-commerce for this, but have to maintain the old asp.content in the iFrame (remember this issue you tried to help me with months ago - +400 products in a form)…

Now owner want to add delivery to door of products (prepaid), so now I’m facing a wall again…

How would you do this?

Hi Louise,

Well I’m not sure where the issue is.

I would rebuild the entire shop with Webflow ecommerce and allow the owner to charge the customer for delivery based on the weight of the product the client is buying.

I don’t think any client want to buy something online, then wait for the owner to validate the order and ask extra money to the client for delivery. People want to buy products knowing there is an extra amount of shipping money included in the price he pays online.

Hope that helps

Yes you’re correct, but the issue is that these products (frozen chicken) vary in size (owner cannot predict how big the pieces will be before the slaughtering):

So the prices vary all the time, e.g. a whole chicken could cost (2,4*61=) 146,40 Danish kroner and up to (2,699x61=) 164,60 danish kroners.

Hope I’m making sense here😊

I see,
well I guess the client will have to find a compromise where he sets an average weight which is large enough for him not to loose money, in the contrary eveb earn a little bit money because he knows more or less how much a chicken weight in average, he just need to set a range so that all chicken weight are englobed within that range for a fixed price.

Example:
If a frozen chicken weight 200g, the owner could set an average weight called ā€œfrom 200g up to 400gā€ so that even if a chicken is 300g, the owner still cover his shipping cost.

Hi @Louise_Christensen.
What you’re after is possible with Foxy + Webflow. For example, customers can checkout without having to pay right away. The store owner can then access a POS page (in Webflow) to charge the customer the updated amount at a later time (once they’ve confirmed total weight, etc.) using the billing info that was saved originally.

Information on our seamless integration with Webflow can be found here: Webflow | Foxy.io Let us know if you have any questions, need help getting started, would like to hop on a phone/Skype call, etc.

Thanks,
Josh

Thank you so so much for your reply on this Josh!! I appreciate it a lot and I will inform my client about this option tomorrow!

THANKS a million and have a great day

Hi again Josh

Do you have an example of a webshop that uses this function that I can show to my client?

Sorry I also forgot to ask:

This client has +400 products, can FoxyStore manage this amount?

Hi @Louise_Christensen.
I don’t have a live example, but can walk you through things. Mind sending a quick email to hello@foxycart.com so we can start that conversation?

Foxy can handle hundreds of thousands of products. To confirm, products are 100% managed in Webflow, so the only limitations will be those in Webflow.

Thanks,
Josh
