Copy & Paste across sites not working

Hi

I am trying to copy something from a Made in Webflow template across to my other site. Normally I have no issues with copying and pasting elements across between sites but this one just comes up with ‘clipboard is empty’ when I try to paste any element.

Is it possible the creator has blocked this function? Or that some complexity in the code?

Hey Alexandra,

I don’t think that’s ever been possible, because you’d be in a readonly view at that point. What you need to do is clone the site, then copy from the clone.

I do often wish I could copy directly from Made in Webflow projects that are marked as cloneable though. That would be great.

Hi, it was between sites but I still couldn’t copy - I changed to chrome after some research and it worked. Thank you for replying.

Long shot maybe but I don’t know if you’d have any thoughts about why the content I pasted across, while all the attributes looked similar, came out skewed? (Ignore the font, I changed that and it still looked like this). It seems I have to re add the animations manually which I am sure I can work out, but do you have any idea what parameters might have not transferred, as like I say all the padding etc. / position is the same. Custom code I have copied to page settings.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

I couldn’t really guess, you’d just need to compare them.
But;

  • If your screenshots are in the standard designer view, it’s most likely an embed with custom CSS that did not get copied over.
  • If your screenshots are in preview mode, it could be interactions.
  • If your screenshots are the published site, could be a <style> block in the page or site head
