To transfer your blog to another site, here’s how you can do it:
First, duplicate your blog test site to create a copy with all your styles, pages, assets, and CMS Collections:
Go to your Dashboard
Hover over your blog site and click the “…” menu
Select “Duplicate site”
Give your new site a name and click “Create site”
Then, transfer your CMS Collections:
In your blog site, go to the Collections panel
Click the “…” menu next to each Collection
Select “Export to CSV”
Go to your main site’s Collections panel
Create matching Collections with the same structure
Click the “…” menu and select “Import from CSV”
Upload your exported CSV files
Please note that importing CSV Collection items may require adding or upgrading your Site plan. You can review Collection item limits for each plan at Plans & pricing | Webflow.
Hopefully this helps! If you still need assistance, please reply here so somebody from the community can help.
There isn’t currently any way to copy-paste your CMS schema, so it’s a hand-rebuild. Then if you have content to transfer, you can CSV-export it and CSV-import it.
However, the way I’d do this today is to use Claude desktop + MCP. The AI LLM can create schema, and would be able to duplicate it easily. You need paid Claude Pro however which is about $20/mo. You might be able to achieve it with Cursor as well, I haven’t checked on a free plan there.
Thanks for your response but I’m totally stuck on this. Here’s where I’m at:
I duplicated my blog as per your instructions to create a copy - I don’t know why I had to duplicate the blog but did it anyway.
I then went to my main site (number 4 in your 'transfer your CMS Collections instructions) and this is where I failed:
I could NOT re-create the same Collections under ‘CMS Collections’ as per your instructions because when I tried to hit ‘Save Collection’ I would get the error message ‘Resource Wasn’t Found’ and nothing was saved.
Please let me know what I’m doing wrong. Many thanks.
You’re responding to an AI there. I’m pretty sure it’s not configured to chat, it just gives an initial guide. Sometimes the response is very useful but in this case, it missed the boat.
The site duplication was not necessary, since you already have your second site built.
What is necessary is creating the same Collection structures with the exact same field names and types, so you can export/import CSV from your old site to your new one.
Here “main site” refers to your new site.
If you’re unfamiliar with Webflow CMS and creating collections, here’s a guide.
Brilliant, thanks for that Michael - appreciate your help :) A chatbot - who knew??!!
I managed to duplicate the CMS structure into my main site and import the CSVs into it, now just need to rebuild as the classes weren’t copied across.
Ha ha I think Webflow thought WebflowAIModerator would be obvious but nearly everyone misses that. Like 95% of forum members try replying to it. At some point it should be able to converse but model APi costs get expensive and AI chatbots get abused ( write my code for me, then make me a cake… )
In Webflow the design and the CMS are completely separate. You can copy pieces of your design over copy-paste style and your classes will be carried over. However you’ll probably need to do some cleanup as classes often get duplicated on paste when there’s an existing class by the same name.
