Best Practice for Transferring Business Site Plan Between Workspaces (Zero Downtime)

Hi Webflow Community,

I need some guidance on the best way to transfer a live website from one Workspace to another without downtime.

Current setup:

  • The site is live under Enterprise Workspace A with a Business Site Plan and a custom domain connected.

  • We’d like to transfer the project into Workspace B (Agency Workspace).

  • After the transfer, Workspace B should fully own hosting and billing for the site.

My concern:

  • I want to make sure the site stays live during the transfer process (no “sunset” or downtime for visitors).

Questions:

  1. What’s the safest step-by-step process to transfer the site between Workspaces while keeping the site live?

  2. Does hosting remain active during the transfer, or is there a risk of interruption?

  3. Are there any DNS, billing, or timing considerations I should be aware of?

Has anyone here successfully transferred a Business Site Plan between Workspaces (especially to an Agency Workspace) with zero downtime? Any best practices or lessons learned would be super helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Aaron

Webflow’s make a bunch of changes here recently, as an Ent client you might use phone support to check.

As far as I’m aware…

  • Transferring sites across workspaces is seamless
  • Site plan is retained, no matter whether it’s being billed to workspace A or using client billing

According to the current docs, the newest update should allow you to transfer the active plan to a client billing profile without canceling it.

Simplify site and billing handoffs with new client payments enhancements | Webflow Updates.

However, I don’t think there’s a capability yet to swap the billing profile on an active site plan. If you need to change the card, you probably need to create a new plan.

( below kept for reference )

If that’s still the case, you most seamless approach might be;

  • Clone the site
  • Setup the business ,plan, but client-billed
  • Use Workspace B’s card
  • Transfer the domain over, you shouldn’t need to re-verify since the workspace is already verified
  • Transfer the cloned site, now billed to workspace B’s card, to workspace B
  • Cancel the site plan on workspace A’s copy

Hi @memetican,

We’re planning to transfer Site A from our Enterprise Workspace (Workspace A) to an Agency Workspace (Workspace B). The main reason for this move is to separate entities within the same company and manage billing with different credit cards.

I’ve reviewed Webflow’s updated documentation, which mentions that sites can be transferred from Freelancer and Agency Workspaces to Client Workspaces with zero downtime.

My question is:
:backhand_index_pointing_right: Does the same apply when transferring a site from an Enterprise Workspace to an Agency Workspace?
In other words, can we safely transfer Site A without any downtime during the process?

Would appreciate any insights or lessons learned from others who have gone through this scenario.

Thank you in advance

Hi Aaron, in every aspect I’m aware of, Enterprise plans add features on top of workspace and site plans. You should have zero problems there.

Usually the docs specify Enterprise though, if you’re concerned I’d contact your Ent rep just to be 100% certain.

I’d be very surprised if the Enterprise workspace didn’t support the full Agency workspace plan feature set.
