Auto tax calculation for New Zealand

Hello.

Just wondering when the Ecommerce system will have Auto Tax Calculation working for New Zealand. Any idea when this will be available?

Cheers

Agreed, I would like to know too. How do we manually add the 15% GST tax?

Just wondering if anybody from Webflow staff can answer this?

Hi @grantsenior.
I was waiting for someone to chime in from Webflow, but for what it’s worth, Foxy supports this already via our integrations with TaxJar and Avalara. Auto-calculations for US and Canada is included without a third-party integration. More info about our seamless integration with Webflow can be found here.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any follow up questions or need help getting started.

Thanks,
Josh

Thank you Josh. Hopefully I won’t need it, but if I do…

Cheers

Hi Grant.
I completely understand. We’re here if you need anything.

Thanks,
Josh

@grantsenior @BrandNew did you guys work out a solution here or a good workaround? setting up a site now and need to work out how we’ll add the NZ GST…!?

Hi Lisa,

I’ve not needed it yet so can’t offer any advice other than I’d probably go with the Foxy option for now if I had to.

Hi Lisa, unfortunately didn’t work for me. I raised the issue with Webflow and they told me that you cannot manually change the tax rate ;-(

Hey Ron, so annoying! What did you end up using? Thanks

Hey Lisa, agreed, it works perfectly fine in Australia but I guess NZ is too small for Webflow. I ended up using Shopify but then you are up for extra charges so overall not a happy solution.

Can anybody from Webflow staff offer any information on this please? Any idea when we can expect Webflow to calculate taxes for NZ sites?

Holding my breath…

Just bumping this again to see what’s happening here.

I’m gearing up to launch my web design business next year. And unfortunately the lack of ability to add GST here in NZ means I can’t offer ecommerce sites in webflow. I’m needing an all-in-one ecommerce solution (I’ve looked at the wonderful product at Foxy, but unfortunately its not really the solution I’m looking for) and webflow just doesn’t cut it. I can’t offer ecommerce without the ability to display GST. Its a non-starter. Which is a shame because I’ve built a really nice shop on my own personal site, but I’ve had to add disclaimers and workarounds on my site, which is something I can’t ask clients to do at all.

So I’m going to be offering either woocommerce or shopify depending on the needs of my client until webflow manage to play catch up. But if anyone knows of any workarounds to get GST displaying somehow that would be appreciated.

Bumping this again as I have a lot of clients using Webflow and it would be great to add New Zealand GST.

Even having the option to add a custom extra charge that you can give a unique name with either a set extra charge or a percentage charge.

Hi Grant,
I know your Tax question dates back to '19 but I’m about to launch an Ecomm website for a client and was wondering if and how you have solved this problem. I still can’t find a way to set the 15% GST… Hope to hear from you.

Cheers,
Dennis

Hey Dennis, I’m in Auckland, so found this interesting as well. Do you have a live site that has the checkout enabled? I’m wondering if there is a way to correct the price to include GST before the charge is sent to the gateway, but my test site does not allow me to see the checkout even though I’ve integrated Stripe.

Overally, this is unlikely to work, it depends on where the shopping cart data is tracked. Old school carts were all client-side, but that’s quite different now.

For now, your best bet is likely to make all pricing GST-inclusive, so that the amount billed does not require recalculation.

In the price formatting, you can add text, e.g.;

So in your situation, you’d instead add GST incl. so that clients are aware throughout the shopping experience that there will be no GST added on checkout.

Not the ideal solution, I know.

Hi Michael,
The site is not live yet but I will use your suggestion by adding the .incl GST. The plan is to go live tomorrow so will do a test run by doing a full order cycle to see if I have managed to leave the tax part out of the checkout and confirmation emails. It seems such a vital part of an eComm website to have this part sorted. I would think it is as simple as being able to manually adjust the tax percentage.

Thx for your feedback.

Cheers,
Dennis

Sharing this workaround here, as it seems very relevant to the NZ crowd. Let me know if it works.

Hello Dennis. Sorry for the late response; no, I’ve not got any further with this. Until Webflow has an inbuilt solution I’m not bothering to consider Webflow as a serious option for an NZ E-commerce build. How did you get on with it in the end?
