I haven’t tested on other mobile devices or tablets but on my iOS devices (iPad and iPhone6) a gradient moving from white to transparent appears grey. Any tips to rectify this?

I’ve seen this before. One way of getting around that is to make sure that your transparent color is (in your case) white at 0 percent opacity instead of default transparent… rgba(255, 255, 255, 0). This fixes the grey that you seen on iOS devices.
