When using GA4, how to track downloads of specific files?

The website uses GA4. Does anyone know how to set it up so that I can track downloads of specific files? For example, number of downloads, where did the clicks happen, from what country, their languages, etc.

What is the proper way to do so?

You can track link clicks; which if it is a file that is linked you could treat as a download. This is event tracking and my preference would be to use GTM to set it up. Tag Manager overview - Tag Manager Help
