Webflow App Generation - now in public beta!

Hi everyone!

Big update today. We just launched Webflow App Generation, now live in public beta!

This is a big step forward for Webflow, expanding what’s possible from building websites to generating full-stack web apps, all powered by AI.

Here’s what you can do with App Gen:

  • Prompt to production: Generate fully functional apps directly in Webflow using natural language.

  • Stay on brand: Apps inherit your site’s design system, components, and variables for a consistent look and feel.

  • Connect to your CMS: Use live CMS data to power calculators, directories, dashboards, and more.

  • Deploy instantly: Publish your app to Webflow Cloud with a single click.

This launch bridges the gap between AI-generated prototypes and production-ready web experiences. Teams can now go from idea to launch in minutes, not weeks.

Plus, we’re live on Product Hunt. Have any feedback as you start exploring? Let us know!

Super impressive so far in playing around with this for just an hour. Is there a way to visually modify the layout and styling of pages the app generator creates without knowing how to edit/write react view code? Or is that coming in the future? In the near term, it would be great if there were a walkthrough video that shows the structure of files the app generator creates in the navigator, and where you might find the right view files to, say, tweak heading text or specific CSS properties of a component.

Great to hear! We are working on visual editing. In the meantime, you will need to work with the AI Assistant to request specific changes if you want to make them without writing code. You may also find success asking the Assistant what files you need to modify. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Is there a place to leave feedback and report bugs on this beta feature? There doesn’t seem to be any way to from inside the app gen ui..?

We are planning to send out surveys starting weekly to gather feedback! You can also drop any ideas or thoughts here. I’m happy to pass along to our Product Manager for App Gen.

Hi, This is great. I was really impressed and built something quite power full very quickly.

Is it possible to insert this AppGen app into a page rather than as a standalone page?

This would make this so much better. Its already a power full feature but this is a vital missing step. This is possible with ‘custom widgets’ so why not with App Gen? Is this in the pipeline? or should I move across to external react components?

Thanks!

Love to hear that! To your question, it is not possible to insert App Gen apps into Webflow pages. You can, however, import components like your nav bar into App Gen apps to make them look like a part of your website. Hope that helps!

Hey Freddie! Another way to do what you’re looking for, is to use Custom Embeds!

I’m using them on my site, where I’m putting in “Custom Embeds” that Embed the Web App the new tool built for me, and it’s working great so far!

A few hiccups while learning, but it’s coming together great

Impressions after a few weeks:

  1. There’s no way to easily transfer app gen work to another (production) webflow project if you already have a site. Huge problem. Have to essentially re-start from scratch after you figure out if your proof of concept is possible to build with WF appgen.
  2. Takes forever to make adjustments to existing views/pages the app gen builder created because they can be hundreds of lines of code long, and when you ask it to make one simple change like changing a heading text or recoloring an element, it makes you sit there and watch it parse every single line in the file, “typing” it out line by line from scratch again, to make that small change instead of just doing it. Such a waste of time. Even if there is processing time needed to complete edit tasks, this UX is terrible - do it async in the background or something.
  3. No way to leave feedback in product when you find bugs or issues - as usual, webflow builds things and then doesn’t make it easy to give feedback except through one very high level survey sent so far.

You could maybe use app gen to build something simple but beyond that you will likely get frustrated quickly.
