Unsure why Elements Console not opening for me to change an URL on a button/tab

Here is my site Read-Only: LINK

I hit Command/Option I and opened up the code, but quickly learned one can’t change it this way. Would appreciate any guidance!

Thank you very , much

Hi there,

A read-only link provides view-only access to a Webflow project. While you can navigate through the Designer interface, you won’t be able to make or save any changes to the site, including modifications to custom code, styles, or page content. This is designed for sharing projects with stakeholders who need to review the design without the ability to modify it.

To make changes to the site, you’ll need full edit access, which requires either site ownership or an Editor seat assigned by the site owner.

Hopefully this helps! If you still need assistance, please reply here so somebody from the community can help.

i think you’ve misunderstood me: and I provided the read-only link because I was prompted to do so. I am having trouble with buttons (tabs) in a video gallery I created using an earlier version of Webflow. I used to be able to see the elements console (and can for other links) - but that’s no longer visible or accessible in any way i may see. I was trying to explain that I folllowed online advice by opening the inspection page to try and alter the code, but that failed. I can’t seem to find any way to alter existing URLs for the videos in my gallery.

thanks

Hi Kelly, which page and section are you having problems with?

You shared the read-only link from your homepage but I’m not seeing a video gallery there. A video or screenshots would help.

Hi there,

I appreciate you replying - thanks so much.

I am attaching a screenshot - the link “multimedia showcase” at the top naviagtes to this gallery at the bottom. I have never posted here before and encountered instructions to include a read-only link - I am sorry it was less than useful for you.

Thanks again

Additionally, you can see how the elemetns console opens for the link at the top, but not for the tabs - though this wasn’t the case until recently. I am hoping it’s an easy fix as i would love to change up the URLs the buttons are linked to.

I appreciate any help!

You’ll want to edit the link directly in the Designer, not through the browser console. Select the button/tab element, then in the settings panel update the URL field , if it’s inside a tab or collection, you may need to dig one layer deeper into the nested element to see it.

I would really like to do that, but could you provide more guidance on accessing that panel? Can you explain what you mean by A layer deeper”? I’m unsure why its location changed, or rather, why the panel I was using previously stopped appearing. Thanks so much - I have spent a lot of time trying to access it. I appreciate you.

I didn’t notice the video - thanks! Strike that :)

You’re welcome, hope it clarifies things for you.

Hi there- big thanks for that! I had no idea this type of support was avilable and it’s great  I actually did understand much of the basics on tabs, but the confusion arose because wqhen I created that gallery, those buttons (or tabs) behaved identically to the other links, with the elements console appearing - same as I see on my menu links. That was appearing on the website’s body, and then it suddenly stopped. Through the video - that’s the first time I saw “video settings” showing the URLs I previously entered - anywhere. I must not have noticed it (though I really did look a lot)… but regardless, I see it now with your help. I knew how to do everything except swap the URLs - and I really appreciate your help, that was great!

Thanks! We have a solid community here. A lot of great contributors.

I have a suspicion that you may have originally been building or using a custom tabs setup that was link-element based. Sometimes template designers do that to construct special interactions. But that’s just a guess, I don’t remember ever seeing an on-canvas popup for tabs since there are really no settings to configure.

Are you trying to swap the video URL’s?

Once you select the tab you want [1], click the video inside the tab pane [2] and then you’ll see the video element’s settings [3].

Pro tip, You have a lot of tabs which makes it tricky to guess which tab you’re selecting. Tab 1 & Tab 2 don’t give meaningful info like Webinar & Music Videos.

You can rename those tabs to make that easier to see and save yourself some headache.
