Setting CMS item to filter to text on page

I’d like to filter the content of a CMS list to a specific reference on a page. I know about tagging it but due to the high volume of items on both lists and frequent changes, I was hoping there was a way to filter the CMS items by a specific text box on the page. Is this possible through an element ID tag?
