Picture optimisation on Webflow

In Webflow is it best practice to optimise images before uploading it, or does Webflow optimise and reduce the file size anyway?

I am used to optimising it before uploading it. However, if Webflow is optimising the image again, it may make it look bad, so it would be good to know.

Webflow with generate a set of “responsive” images when you upload a photo however this only works for image elements—not background images:

I’d recommend giving them some form of reduction initially (just so they’re obnoxious) and then let Webflow’s platform handle serving up smaller versions depending on the screen size :+1:
