Yes, I’ve noticed this behaviour before. It happens on all my sites and it’s bugged me for quite some time!
It happens when the user presses the menu button while scrolling - or shortly after a scroll has finished. I’ve noticed that if the page is static for a few seconds - i…e the user hasn’t scrolled - then the menu button is quite responsive.
Interestingly however, I built one site recently - www.cookbynumbers.net and the menu button on this is super responsive. Test it ou! I’m not sure why. It uses the menu type “over-left” and it is absolutely positioned to the bottom left of a fixed nav bar.
I just tried duplicating that site and using the very same elements and this duplicated site shows the same lag with two different types of menu button positioning - http://cooking-shtuff.webflow.io/
This issue seems to be performance related, rather than a specific bug. We now have a team of engineers dedicated to Performance. They are actively working on some platform updates to monitor and improve the performance levels across the board.
This issue among others will be addressed by the Peformance team. I don’t have an exact time frame for you but we hope to have this resolved soon.
The slowness and delay of the menu opening is a major UX flaw - causing the user to think the button is broken or the site is unresponsive. Some of my clients are asking me about this issue and I have no response for them
It’s a pretty serious issue to be affecting the menu opening actions on all Android devices using Chrome - which is a pretty huge amount - Android have an 83.2 market share and Chrome is installed on somewhere between 1 billion and 5 billion devices according to the Google Play Store stats.
No word back from the team on this one yet, but we are working on it. I’ve gone ahead and updated my initial report with the info you just provided regarding users affected.
I’ll keep you posted as I hear back from the team - thanks for your patience.
The team is still looking into this one. As this menu lag is Performance related, the fix for this issue will be a part of overall platform performance improvements.
I appreciate your patience so far and will post back with more details as soon as I have them
Is there any update on this? It’s such a bad user experience. Even when I’m testing my sites on my android and I know about the issue, I still think that the page has frozen and the site is unresponsive. This is a pretty big deal and has done nothing in over 5 months to address it.
We know you’re busy building things, but surely this is worth addressing as it makes sites seem super buggy and slow.
Thanks again for pinging this one. No new update as of right now for the sluggish nav menu.
The team definitely takes issues like this seriously which is why we have a dedicated performance team and stabilization team.
These teams are always hard at work improving various parts of the platform, and I’d like to assure you that this issue is definitely slated to be resolved. I can’t give an exact time frame for you but I’ll provide more details as I am able to.
