Hi,
I updated my meta description about 6 months ago all is was working, and showing on Google, and then a few weeks ago I saw this after searching my site.
Google’s algorithm will generate its own meta description if the page has a poor/missing meta description or to better match the specific query that was used in the search itself:
If you inspect the page itself you’ll see (what I assume to be) the meta description you set in Webflow so you have everything setup correctly in the Project Settings:
Google decided that the content on the page that is using the “@catoltd.com” email is more appropriate to include in the SERP description since your search was for “catoltd”. By including that chunk of the page in the result description they can highlight the matching bit within the context of the page.
Unfortunately there’s not anything to “fix” here — you’ve set up the description in the code properly and as far as I’m aware you can’t force your description to show up when using Google search. They control the results shown on that page and they’ve determined that the bit they’ve included for the description is more relevant to your specific search query.
Adding to Mike’s notes, in theory, your goal is to increase the “signal” to Google to make it clearer what the page is about in the body content, headings, etc. Google’s algo will compose what it thinks is most representative from that. Nothing else you can do directly in your site.
In rare cases, I’ve seen direct feedback work, by clicking the little 3 dots next to your SERPs listing.
