Is it possible to pull in text field data for the slug?

I am working on a job board, a lot of jobs will have the same title, which will result in some messy URL’s.

We do have a unique job reference number, using that in the url would be ideal, so:

/designer/ref-20495 <<< would be ideal.

We could keep the job title the same but amend the slug so that it displays like this:

/designer-ref-20495.

I thought I would first check if the first option is possible.
