This might be an odd question but is there a way to omit a word that’s repeated a lot on your website so that it does NOT show up at all in Google searches and is NOT listed for SEO?

Sure is. Remove / replace it in your documents.

It has to be in the site content, but I just don’t want it to mean the site shows up as a result if someone googles the words
Google shows what it thinks it should based on the searchers intent and history based on the content it analyzes on your site. While you can have some influence on the outcome it is not something that is assured. For Google related SEO knowledge you should start at Google’s search central.
