Downloadable v-card

Hi there,

As Webflow doesn’t allow uploading the vCard.vcf file, how are people getting around this problem?

Cheers

Dropbox (or any cloud or any server) right click copy link and use that url on any link element in your Webflow site.

Thanks, that’s what we’re going wit hnow.

Cheers

Don’t forget to edit the url given by Dropbox in order to have it pointing to the file directly, and not to a download page on their website.

Dropbox URL: Dropbox - File Deleted

Change by either swapping the 0 at the end to a 1:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/6ztaheaqxtq3a94/3X8A7013.MOV?dl=1

or by removing ?dl=0 entirely, and changing the domain from www.dropbox.com to dl.dropboxusercontent.com

https://dl.dropbousercontent.com/s/6ztaheaqxtq3a94/3X8A7013.MOV

I prefer the latter, the URL is cleaner, with no parameter at the end.

Awesome hack @vincent, thanks for this!

Just want to add some additional context for others - @vincent’s second method is preferable in most cases because if you don’t change the domain to http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com and the user has the DropBox app downloaded on their phone (*only tested iPhone), then the link will open the DropBox app rather than open the contact on iPhones

Very interesting!

I just tested it with the option 1 and dl=1 at the end of the URL, on iOS 16.
Safari proposed to open the Dropbox app but opens Contacts on top of it.

Oh odd! I didn’t try on iOS so good call. Option 2 has been working like a charm. Using this to make digital business cards. Really cool, thanks again!

Instead of uploading the vCard.vcf file directly to your Webflow site, you can create a link to the file that visitors can click on to download it. To do this, upload the vCard.vcf file to a file-sharing service like Dropbox or Google Drive, and then create a link to the file that you can add to your Webflow site.

It would appear that the “second method” above no longer works (dropbox has changed its features, apparently?).

But this method from google drive appears to work: Is it possible to crete a link that adds vcard info to iphone. … and (at least on my iphone) the link automatically opens my address book and prompts me to add the contact. Wil.l have to check android phones later.
