Change the icon colour on a 'Current' Tab

Hi there! I have a simple enough problem, but can’t seem to understand how to make it work:
I have icons (i used HTML embed) that change colour from grey to yellow on a hover behaviour.

However, I’m wondering if it’s possible that they stay the yellow color when the Tab is “Current”?
I can successfully change the font colour of the Current tab, yes – but then it changes the font of the text, too. And I want it to remain black.

Wondering if someone knows the answer.
