Can't get 'blend-mode: difference' to work

Hi there!

I’ve applied ‘blend mode: difference’ to my navigation menu, but it does not seem to work. I’ve made sure that all layers are ‘background: transparent’ – I’m not sure what else I need to do to make sure that the blend mode works.

I tried looking at other posts that describe a similar problem, like this one, but I don’t quite understand the instructions given.

I’d appreciate any help!
