Cache misses on published CMS driven pages are extremely slow

A section of our site is driven by the Webflow CMS. We’re noticing significant lag on the published CMS pages where the response header indicates a cache miss - on average 1.75 to 2 seconds, but I’ve even see a Cloudflare 504.

Content-wise, the document is only 17KB, so no images or other heavy media.

Clicking on links makes the page seem frozen, since it just sits there for a few seconds before navigating.

Cache hits are faster, it is just the cache misses.

Could we be missing a crucial publishing step? I feel like our use case is pretty “up the fairway” for Webflow. We’re not doing anything random or weird.
