Where to find individual CMS blog pages

Hey everyone,

I’m still a bit new to Webflow, so forgive me for what might be an obvious question.

I’m working on a site and using the CMS to design a series of blog articles. I’ve created a page template and linked it to my CMS databased, and everything seems to be working so far.

Where do I find the individual article pages? I’d like to customize each of the pages slightly, but can’t edit one page without it affecting all the others. Can I even do this, or do I need to create individual pages one by one, and then link to the CMS fields?

CMS templates have a “rigid” page layout across the items they create. so e.g. a blog template would create very similar blog articles, for consistency. You can vary that somewhat using conditional visibility and some techniques;

Your other option is to just create each blog page as a static page. The new page templates feature is useful for this, but you’d lose the CMS advantage for building directory pages.

OK, but how do I find the unique URL for each blog post?

At the footer of each page, I have a section with links to related posts, and I’m not sure how I would set up those links.

If you’re using the CMS, you’d;

  • Add a related post multi-ref field
  • Drop a collection list on your blog template page and bind it to that field
  • Link up the fields you want in your related posts section.

You’ll want to spend some time in Webflow U going through the courses on the CMS, Collection Pages, and Collection Lists so that you understand the tools comfortably.

Thanks Michael. I’ve watched all of the CSM courses on Webflow U though, and there’s still parts of how everything works that is still confusing.

Another CMS related question … I’ve set up all my different blog/article pages, but notice that the author field has a short code added after every entry. Even though authors might have multiple articles, they’re registering as different because of this.

For example:
jeff-ronhaar-5c2c6
jeff-ronhaar-33f3f
jeff-ronhaar-6f3a4

If I try to remove the code, I get a warning that changing this will break any external URLs to the page. There shouldn’t be any, but when I try to save the page I get a Validation Error message.

Yes, it’s quite a learning curve- most people go through the courses and a few site builds, then expand techniques with youtube etc.

If you want to short-circuit that, you can hire a tutor. It will help a lot with the Q&A

I didn’t know that was an option. Where would I hire a tutor?

I do tutoring as part of my build work- for example I’ll build a feature for a client’s site and the document the design and process with video tutorials around it so they know how to repeat the process and maintain it.

I’ll DM you a link in case that interests you- but there are a lot of options here. I lean towards the technical aspects of Webflow, programming, integrations, CMS design, etc. others may lean towards artistic, styling interactions, and design decisions.

You can just post a message here in the freelance & jobs category if you’re looking for a tutor in a specific area.
